There is no shortage of video footage of the meteor explosion over Chelyabinsk, Feb. 15, 2013. Marat Akhmetvaleev’s photographs may, however, be the only high quality stills. by Nick Glossop on February 15, 2013
For 40 Years, This Russian Family Was Cut Off From All Human Contact
The four scientists sent into the district to prospect for iron ore were told about the pilots’ sighting, and it perplexed and worried them. “It’s less dangerous,” the writer Vasily Peskov notes of this part of the taiga, “to run across a wild animal than a stranger,” and rather than wait at their own temporary base, 10

Meteor Strike In Russia
by Nick Glossop on February 15, 2013
A meteor that exploded over Russia this morning was the largest recorded object to strike the Earth in more than a century, scientists say. Infrasound data collected by a network designed to watch for nuclear weapons testing suggests that today’s blast released hundreds of kilotonnes of energy. That would make it far more powerful than the nuclear weapon tested by North Korea just days ago and the largest rock crashing

The tattooing gun is fashioned from an electric razor, a ballpoint pen and some guitar string.
This is a very courageous documentary on the tattooing subculture in Russian prisons. I don’t know how it ever got made, but it’s beautiful, scary, and heartbreaking

Judge Marina Syrova convicted the women of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred, saying they had “crudely undermined social order”.
Well, then. It would almost be comical to read the deliberate stupidity of this verdict, with its schoolmarm’s hectoring tone, if it were …
