A Fibonacci Cèilidh
by Nick Glossop on April 5, 2013
The mathusiasts at Numberphile go all Braveheart with a Fibonacci sequence tartan and accompanying skirl.
Dance (wee, sleekit, cow’rin, tim’rous) critters!
Fun fact: At the Battle of Stirling Bridge, William Wallace arranged his defensive shiltrons in Fibonacci sequence. The numerous but innumerate English invaders were baffled as well as defeated there. …

The Bush Georges And The American Horror Closet
by Nick Glossop on March 23, 2013
The following clip may be for you if you were at all surprised that the end of the Bush W. administration did not bring about an end to the Bush wars, or the Bush war shenanigans, or Gitmo, or that the Obama presidency has shown less than zero appetite for pursuing and prosecuting Bush officials who lied, deceived, profiteered, and engaged in such war crimes as unprovoked war, attacks on …

Documentary Exposes US Role in Iraq Sectarian Conflict
by Nick Glossop on March 16, 2013
This is one of the great untold stories of the Iraq War, how just over a year after the invasion, the United States funded a sectarian police commando force that set up a network of torture centers to fight the insurgency. It was a decision that helped fuel a sectarian civil war between Shia and Sunni that ripped the country apart. At its height, it was claiming 3,000 victims a

by Nick Glossop on March 7, 2013
A chance for the Nobel Committee to redeem itself after a series of rash (Barack Obama, 2009) and absurd (European Union, 2012) choices:

by Nick Glossop on January 7, 2013
Guy Lawson dropped in on the Majority Report to talk about his new book, Octopus, an apparent exposé of the comegedy of corruption plaguing our modern times.
From Baja to Wall Street, to Kabul, to a seat on the couch next to Floyd from True Romance, trust me, this clip will pay massive dividends on the investment of half an hour of your time. I’m buying this Guy’s …

Bradley Manning Finally Gets to Speak
by Matthew Payne on December 1, 2012
Kevin Gosztola has been doing Pulitzer-quality work on the Bradley Manning pre-trial hearing on whether Manning was subject to “unlawful pretrial punishment.” The answer seems to be, “hells to the yeah!”:
2:05 PM Fifteen minute break. Fein opened up an incredible line of questions with Manning that do not obviously appear to benefit the government’s case that he wasn’t unlawfully punished. He asked about “voluntary statements” he signed except they

1000 Words, 1000 Days: Day 322 – The Angel Of Warsaw
by Marty Schwartz on November 18, 2012
This site’s reputation has been built on a reputation of hard-cutting satire, edgy intellectual comedy, and a complete lack of awareness about what this site’s reputation has been built upon. But sometimes we have to check our laughs at the door and have the cajones to stand up and start a slow-clap, fully aware that it will crescendo into tumultuous applause because the object of our smacky praise is someone …
