Walking With The Beast
by Nick Glossop on March 24, 2013
c/o Charles Fréger < < Wilder Mann Image of The Savage
The bear is the wild man’s close counterpart—in some legends the bear is his father. A beast that walks upright, the bear also hibernates in winter. The symbolic death and rebirth of hibernation herald the arrival of spring with all its plenty. For festival participants, says Fréger, “becoming a bear is a way to express the beast and a way to control the beast.”

The Bush Georges And The American Horror Closet
by Nick Glossop on March 23, 2013
The following clip may be for you if you were at all surprised that the end of the Bush W. administration did not bring about an end to the Bush wars, or the Bush war shenanigans, or Gitmo, or that the Obama presidency has shown less than zero appetite for pursuing and prosecuting Bush officials who lied, deceived, profiteered, and engaged in such war crimes as unprovoked war, attacks on …

Paltry Paddy Fare
by Nick Glossop on March 17, 2013
My own favorite St. Paddy’s Days were probably the ones spent at SXSW down in Austin. There, the day has a distinctly Mexican and Spanish flavor, and the Running of the Leprechauns was always great fun (get there early or you won’t see a thing). Be that as it may, here are some fine Irish tunes, beginning with Punk as it ought to be played and ending with some mighty …

Irish Physics And The Miracle Of Guinness
by Nick Glossop on March 17, 2013
The universe, so say the bloody physicists, is foam, and the most perfect foam known to man, and made by man, sits atop a pint of Guinness stout. Go and have one, stare into it and contemplate its Hegelian proof; Man apprehends the universe, man creates the universe, man drinks it up (and falls down).

Documentary Exposes US Role in Iraq Sectarian Conflict
by Nick Glossop on March 16, 2013
This is one of the great untold stories of the Iraq War, how just over a year after the invasion, the United States funded a sectarian police commando force that set up a network of torture centers to fight the insurgency. It was a decision that helped fuel a sectarian civil war between Shia and Sunni that ripped the country apart. At its height, it was claiming 3,000 victims a

Jerry Jerry ~ I, Showbiz

Some talk of Buñuel here at the site prompted me to put this clip together. Luis Buñuel made this strange film L’Âge d’Or in 1930. When I first saw it, I had a eureka moment as I thought I had discovered the cradle in which Monty Python had been birthed. The inception point comes earlier in the movie, when the protagonist becomes enraged at the site of a blind beggar, …
