A Small Firey Cubist

Avocado, El Dorado, Pablo Picasso

Much as I love the Modern Lovers and have been enriched by the music of Jonathon Richman, I find it hard to believe that Picasso was never called an asshole – perhaps not as often as me, but it must have happened at least once or twice.

I think Picasso was nearly the King of Assholes for many decades (I think Bunuel called him ‘Picasshole’, or maybe it was Dali). Him with the smokes and the no shirt and the steely glare and it’s just, arghhh….asshole. But nice paintings and such.
I think Richman meant himself but you can’t sing ‘Jonathan Richman never got called an asshole,’ because a) it doesn’t scan and b) it’s an asshole thing to say.

I think Jonathan was right. I’d be surprised if Pablo Picasso was every called an asshole, even by his wives. I’m betting though, he was the king of assholes. Conundrum? Not. Just the general asskissing given to run-of-the-mill sociopaths who rip off other people’s art. On the other hand, I wonder what Tatlin thought of the old fraud.

Funny, I was just listening to Cyndi Lauper interview on Howard Stern, and she mentioned how terribly he treated women, and Howard was incredulous, and Cyndi was incredulous that Howard was incredulous.
