Paul F Tompkins on Chick-fil-A and the Taste of Hate
by Andrew Loewen on August 3, 20122 comments
So Chick-fil-A is an American fastfood chain run by some bigoted anti-gay Christians who pour a share of their slave-wage factory-poultry profits into anti-gay marriage lobbying. The company execs are so outspoken in their bigotry that several municipal politicians — in Boston and Chicago — have made noises about denying them business licenses to expand in their cities. Liberals are justifiably abuzz and atwitter with righteous indignation, though the circulation of pro-KFC memes (“Chicken without the hate”) itself speaks to the intellectual bankruptcy of liberal slacktivism. Meanwhile, white middle America turned out on August 1st in its diabetic millions to stand in line in support of hate sandwiches. The fact liberals themselves refuse to understand however, is that the American right uses the culture wars to run interference while they absolutely CRUSH in the larger class war. And a lot of liberals–if not most–fight on the side of the boss in that war.
Not a real amusing introduction to a brilliant bit of comedy on the issue from Paul F Tompkins. So funny.

Why is food political/ideological? I’ll still eat there. It’s delicious!

No accounting for taste. I live in Georgia and have a Chik-fil-a in my cafeteria. I’m quite aware of Mr. Tuett’s views for well over a decade but I have boycotted his food on the grounds that it is slop for a very long time. They can’t even make a decent french fry.
