(Video) The Class Dynamics of Québec’s “Language Wars”

With international media finally giving some attention to the most powerful and militant student uprising in the Western world — and as its political ambitions expand — here’s a fascinating look back at Québec’s so-called “language wars,” the leftist political dynamics of which were rather downplayed in the high school curriculum I was taught in Alberta. The main point not directly outlined here is that Quebec’s ruling class was almost totally Anglophone, and class division was dramatically split between Anglos and the Francophone working class.Today, the most prominent leftwing sovereigntist political organization in the province is Québec solidaire, who hold one seat in Québec’s National Assembly (and are strict pacifists and basically just social-democrats in policy). The video:
The workers and the capitalists clash head on.
