A Canadian Federal Election (Again)
by Nick Glossop on March 27, 20116 comments
To mark yet another federal election in Canada, the 4th in 7 years, I post Troy Hurtubise, the archetypal Canadian (or a Canadian of an archetype) and his mission, vocation, doom, to attempt to make a Grizzly-proof suit as the metaphor for the trials of the long-suffering Canadian electorate.
Troy, the Canadian voting public, and the Grizzly suit take more shit after the break.

i love this metaphor!
incidentally, i was recently back in the stacks of the Canadian Film Refernce Library’s special collections, and propped up forlornly in the corner, was the bottom half of the Mach IV grizzly suit. it was pretty hefty, and huge. i believe that’s what one calls an archival jolt.

Holy crap, Michelle!
I was saying to a friend yesterday that elections are the most depressing political event that we participate in. I truly believe this.
I haven’t been following punditry or polls, but I imagine we’re in for another Harper minority gov’t.
Iggy and the Libs keep chasing the “centre” as it slides further and further to the right and the NDP have likewise tacked rightward to keep up (hardly a social-democratic plank left in the platform). At least when I was in East Van I could vote (and campaign) for Libby Davies, who is the most principled and progressive parliamentarian in Canada (and Canada’s first and to date only “out” lesbian MP, to my knowledge).

Michelle, weren’t you tempted to slip into those pants when no one was looking? After all, they are trousers of national greatness.

Hah, the pants appeared to have an inside lining of home-made chainmail fashioned out of layers of staples… yeouch!
This election is officially “the worst”. I’m at a loss. (my highly nuanced analysis).

If we keep voting for minority governments then we will continue to have general elections every 2 yrs .Give Harper a Majority and let him get on with it.

So that we can have the same Hooverian ‘austerity’ measures that are currently ruining the US and UK? No thanks. Better a jammed and ineffective parliament that one that is effective but utterly wrong-headed.
