Shopping in Tchotchke Tower this weekend, I spied this change purse and just had to sneak a photo.
Reminded me of the time an acquaintance in Taipei, one of the few black men in a city far less cosmopolitan than Guangzhou (trading brings them all here), dressed up as the Darkie (the previous name for Darlie) toothpaste guy for Hallowe’en.

A changepurse with ‘CHANGE’ written on it and Obama’s picture: that’s a clever pun on his campaign platform. Making him up to look like one of the most heinously racist corporate logos I’ve ever seen… that’s just stupendously rotten.
